Screening

We offer free early childhood screening for 3- to 5-year-olds who live in our school district.

• The state of Minnesota requires the screening before a child starts kindergarten.
• It is best if children are assessed when they are three years old.

We offer screenings:

• By appointment
• During the school year
• At the Early Learning School

This free screening allows us to:

• Meet with preschool-age children and their parents or guardians.
• Assess how children are learning and developing, using
  • Our observations
  • Health and development histories provided by parents and guardians.
• Identify children who may benefit from school district or community resources to support their development.

It is the start of our partnership to prepare your child for success in school. 

How to opt out of screening

If you do not want your child to participate in a screening, you must complete and submit a Conscientious Objection Form.

• Confirm your appointment.
• Share next steps.

We will attach some forms for you to fill out and return to us. The completed forms will:

• Tell us about your child's health and development history.
• Give us permission to assess your child.
